Soul and consciousness
QUESTION: Masters as far as I understand, my Higher Self is limitless, unmanifested Consciousness. Living with this body, mind and limited senses is like living in the prison. Why is that? What is the difference between Soul and Consciousness? ~Kaarina, Finland.
ANSWER: A definition of “consciousness” has been the life work of many philosophers, theologians, and spiritualists. They all tend to agree that it denotes a type of awareness, but on an awareness of what, and in what state, they diverge. This is another case where we have been asked to use your limited Earthly language to describe something that transcends physical oral communications and can mean different things in different arenas.
To the human being, consciousness can mean an awakeness of the functioning body as opposed to a comatose state. This involves the physical aspects of self only. Philosophically, it extends to the mental faculties as used in thought and feeling, but here again, that is in the physical realm. In a spiritual sense, it generally connotes an awareness of the nonphysical essence of self, or the soul. This goes beyond the physical body and includes everything that the body and soul are and can be.
As for the term “soul,” most would agree that it refers to the energetic essence that broke off, and was individualized, from Source for the purpose of gaining wisdom. The soul is nonphysical in and of itself but has the ability to inhabit a physical shell or body. “Higher self” is the term many apply to the amount of the soul’s essence that is within the human body, communicates with both the physical and nonphysical aspects, and has access to the universal consciousness.
The human aspects of the soul’s Earth journey are restrictive and limiting because humans generally can access and utilize only the amount of knowledge or awareness that they have self-experienced during the present lifetime. But this limitation is actually the reason that human existence can permit the gathering of wisdom through mastering life lessons.
When one becomes conscious of their essence, they tap into all the knowledge they have gathered over many lifetimes. They understand the nature of a soul and yearn for the freedom that escape from the restrictive body can allow. This is the stage in which you find yourself – you understand the possibilities of existing as your true self.
Is there a hierarchy
QUESTION: Masters, can you explain the system of hierarchy at home, please? Do older souls with more experience and knowledge…such as the Ascended Masters… hold higher authority? Do the colors of the orbs of energy change with experience? Who organizes things? ~Jane, UK.
ANSWER: Since a soul having a human experience is brought up and lives in an ego based, judgmental society where everything and everyone is rated, graded, and judged, you expect that to be the situation everywhere. In order to have judgments, you have to be in an arena where there is negativity, an inferior or superior aspect to every possibility. The only place this exists is on planet Earth. Therefore, there are no judgments, grading, or rating – hence, no hierarchy – anywhere but on Earth.
All souls are the same; none is any better than, more important than, or in charge of making decisions for, any other. The title “Ascended Master” implies only that the soul has achieved mastery of everything possible about a particular human characteristic.
For instance, they might have mastered all experiences concerning the element of control. That just means that they have been controlled and, additionally, in control during many lifetimes, exploring all aspects of control so that they can teach the subject to other inquiring souls who wish to decide if such a life would benefit their enlightenment process.
A soul makes its own decisions – it is never told by anyone what it must, or even should, do. It is only in taking responsibility for using their freedom of choice that wisdom is gained. While each soul has a group of twelve advisors to assist them in planning their journeys to Earth, even they don’t hold any authority over the soul.
The orbs of energy that may be seen by humans are just a visual means of communication. The colors are completely arbitrary and chosen by the soul as an expression of who they are. Further, communication in the nonphysical world, where the soul does not have a voice box, is by means of vibrations, sound, and color.
Organization is a group affair. If they want to have a mass experience to see how something is going to affect the world, they get together and all incarnate at the same time, forming a sufficient number to have an impact. This is what has happened in the case of all major disasters, wars, or movements.
The control of vulnerability
QUESTION: Masters I have found difficulty in friendships and romantic relationships. I enjoy socializing but over the years have been met with so many disappointments from those I have trusted and/or loved. I find myself resisting making friends, opening up to my lover, accepting that these people want to be in my life. I believe that these encounters are trying to teach me something, but I just can’t seem to shake my fears related to the many negative past experiences. Part of me has started to wonder if I’m meant to be alone, while another part of me thinks that’s just my ego talking to keep me safe from pain. What could be the cause of this? ~Kaley Marie, USA.
ANSWER: You are very rigid in your expectations concerning anything that comes into your life, particularly when it deals with relationships of any kind. You have a need to be in control, so in new situations, even meeting and sharing interests with someone you have never met, you are hesitant because they are the great unknown. After an affair has begun, you then want to hide behind your walls so as not to be vulnerable to their analysis and potential criticism.
You lack self-confidence and self-worth. You don’t believe you are good enough or in the right position to be loved, and you have no idea about self-love or even romantic love. Love is an acceptance of who the other person is – not what you want them to be.
To be fulfilling, a relationship must be open and sharing so you can find a mutually satisfying bond. With your current emotional deficits, you are unable to comply. To reach a state where you can experience love, you first have to rid yourself of limiting beliefs. You need to develop a confidence that who you are is perfect for someone out there.
All souls are wonderful, loving, magnificent people if they allow themselves to be. Whenever one of your fears or doubts pops up, stop what you are doing and chase it down. Why is it there? Where does it come from? Why have I allowed it to take charge of me? Answering these questions will banish the restrictions and open a new world of possibility. Accept that you are an unconditionally loving soul with no constraints.

Kika from Brazil asks the Masters: My ex-boyfriend has changed our relationship to live the amusements with friend group that he did in college, a world away from God, he will regret it? I still like him, I hope he will transform and become a being of light. He was always a good boy, and out of nowhere he walked away from me and his parents.
Answer: There are too many variables to be able to tell you what your ex will decide in the future – for right now he is totally enmeshed in this juvenile behavior. He is only considering his physical pleasures at the moment and cannot imagine being concerned about enlightenment. You will just have to wait and see what decisions he makes from now on.
Bonny from the US asks the Masters: I feel trapped in a relationship, where I can’t be as spiritual as I’d like to be. So, my question is, will we be separating soon and is there something I’m supposed to learn from him?
Answer: You have freedom of choice to stay or go. Just know that the longer you expose yourself to lower vibrations, the better chance you have of being sucked back down into the negative duality. This is a lesson that shows you are in control of your own life if you honor your journey and do what feels right to you. Nothing is right or wrong in spirituality; it is all just lessons to experience and from which to learn.
Fabi from Brazil asks the Masters: A couple of months ago the family had two loses. Some members got depressed. I want to know how this process affects my relationship status and how I can fix it, if there is something I can do to make things better.
Answer: Each person has different life lessons that were triggered by these losses. Feelings of guilt, betrayal, abandonment, and a lack of self-confidence and -worth are all present. Each soul must work out their own understanding. Being there, and giving an open heart and ear to those who need to talk out their feelings, is the best thing you can do right now.
Beth from Portugal asks the Masters: I understand I need to heal my sexual energy. Can you explain to me what do I have to learn? My boyfriend, on the other hand, presents a big blockage in this area, repressing his energy and it’s affecting me. I feel I want to stay with him and I don’t know what to do to help us build a healthy sexual relationship. What is the right perspective to look at this?
Answer: Communication is the key to solving your problem. Be very open with him and discuss your desires and his fears. You have differing views on what is appropriate in a relationship before marriage. He is quite old fashioned about pre-marital sex. He needs to understand what your beliefs are so he can see if he can be comfortable with them.
Debra from Brazil asks the Masters: Am I really getting help from my guides? What can I do? My life is upside down and I do not have the strength to fight as before, can you advise me, please?
Answer: Stop right there; it is time to observe what is happening around you and get out of the pity routine you have fallen into. Each soul creates their own reality, and you have decided yours is one of feeling abused and abandoned. Your guides are always there but you are failing to listen. They won’t tell you specifically what to do, but they will give you advice – the secret is listening.
SS from Indonesia asks the Masters: I feel so attached to my cats and I never consider them "just cats". When a cat gets ill I will get anxious and put everything I have to heal them. When a cat is dying it usually takes a long time that adds up to my panic and anxiety. People tell me to let go of attachment, but I find it hard to do. What does my past life tell about this?
Answer: You have made your cats your family. It is a very safe place to be because they never belittle you, talk back, or plot against you. When they age and get near death, you fear being without them. They are your safety net, a non-threatening force that is always present. There is nothing wrong with this attitude because each soul creates their own reality, and this is yours. What is happening is that your friends see you as being closer to the cats than to other humans and it worries them. This does not have anything in particular to do with past lives – it is a lesson for this life.
Shruti from India asks the Masters: I want to ask about my friend Priyanka. She was in a relationship with someone and that person married someone else. Now My friend is in deep depression she misses him a lot and can’t get over him. I want to know how I can help her and will she ever forget and forgive him. My heart breaks to see her crying all the time. She is a good soul then why is she suffering so much. She doesn’t want to marry anyone now.
Answer: She has to decide how she was being used by this man for entertainment. He never had any intention of creating something permanent with her. She created a fantasy world between the two of them because she wanted it so desperately. All you can do is be there to listen to her and see if you can show her how the relationship never really existed and any contact with him will never be re-established. She is feeling guilt that she thought she loved him so deeply when it was all one-sided. Get her looking toward the future and someone who would appreciate her.
Shweta from Australia asks the Masters: I have been on a quest to try understand my life lesson and karmic relationship with my husband...I have got different messages through past life meditations and am struggling to understand it's meaning and how to incorporate these messages into my life. Can you help with some guidance?
Answer: You are having difficulty because there is no one lesson with the soul who is your current husband. You are members of the same soul group and have shared many lives together where you have had very active lesson lives – and also ones like this, where there is nothing in particular you wanted to do other than to share a life again. Stop over-thinking the situation. Just continue to look into the fears and doubts appearing in your life to figure out your own life lessons.
Suchitra from India asks the Masters: Do I continue on the path of ART OF LIVING, and can I join the ashram as an employee?
Answer: The choices are yours. Right now, you feel you want others to make decisions for you, and being involved in this particular program takes all responsibility away since everything is monitored for you. The ashram has very few employees; almost everyone is a volunteer. Does that sound good to you? If it does, apply.
Susanna from Finland asks the Masters: I feel that I’m stuck with my life and I don’t know what to do or where should I go that I can start my life again. I don’t have job or hobbies, because I feel that I haven’t found interesting job yet, but also, I’m little bit stressed because I need money so I can buy food. So, my question is do I found the right path?
Answer: You are at a crossroads right now. It is for you to see what you really desire to experience and how involved you wish to be in the world around you. Stop over-analyzing everything. If something appeals to you, try it and see how much it resonates with you. Trial and error is what will give you your answers.
Fe from Indonesia asks the Masters: I have never been satisfied with my financial condition, yet I seem to not enjoy working for money. I feel much better doing social and volunteer works, helping others and animals. Which one is the true me and what can I do to both make money and help others?
Answer: The “true you” is whoever you choose to be, since you have total freedom of choice and you are in charge of creating your reality. This confusion with the details of your life demonstrates the lessons of your life. You need to decide, using discernment, which you wish to value more in this life. Neither is right or wrong, and what feels best immediately may change in the future.
Caroline from Ireland asks the Masters: Is there any substance to the folklore about robins being spiritual messengers? I was at a funeral today and was very upset. As I was walking out of the cemetery with my head down, just wanting to get back to my car, my head was spinning, and I was in a bit of a state when I just noticed a robin sitting on a wall beside me. I felt like it was actually watching me and it hopped around on the wall as I walked past so that it was still looking at me. I realized that I was smiling and wanted in some way to acknowledge it but felt others on the path behind me would think I’d lost my marbles, so I just smiled at it. Did this have any deeper meaning or am I being fanciful?
Answer: Your guides frequently use available birds and animals to reach out to you when they feel you need companionship or an affirmation about something. Take it for what it is: a connection with the universe who wants to help you see that all things are interconnected. Souls who have returned Home also use animated objects, and sometimes inanimate objects, to let you know they are still around and thinking about you.
