More H2-B Workers?

Several congressmen, among them the infamous Susan Collins (R) are lobbying to get more aliens to take on non-agricultural jobs.

Previously, the cap was 66,000. Now, they want to double it.

For me, the question is not so much about the issuance of the original visas.

It is: do those workers return to their home country when the visa expires?

Surprisingly (smirk!), that answer is difficult to find out online.

It appears that the forms don't adequately distinguish between new workers and returning workers (some of whom might still be present in the USA), and may be improperly filled out.

I checked on multiple sites, and the returning workers fall under the "exception" to the yearly cap on the number of workers that can be present. I'm going to BOLD the following to make sure it is seen and remembered.

The returning workers do NOT count towards the yearly cap. That means that the actual number of H2-B VISA holders may easily be 4 X the number in the yearly 'limits'.

The above link also notes the widespread abuses of some of the H2-B employers. I'm generally against importing workers - if that job is so distasteful, raise the wages, and some desperate fool will do it for the cash.

The numbers heading for the USA are staggering. I see no way that this cannot be considered an emergency, and a proper and legal use of Emergency Powers. I know Rand Paul likes to think of himself as a principled man, but - if he does stand against the use of those powers, and persuades other Republicans to do the same, the GOP is dead.

Along with the Republic.

I have no hatred of Mexico or most of its people. But, I also have no desire to turn my country into its clone.

Meanwhile, CNN is reporting "What the Trump Administration Says is Happening at the Border" - the implication is that Trump is lying his ass off about the numbers involved, and that there is no crisis in the making.

Naturally, the Democrats agree with CNN's assessment of the situation:

"No sensible person believes there is an emergency at the southern border. Illegal immigration is at record lows, and families with children who lawfully seek asylum are not foreign invaders," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-New York), in a statement Thursday. Nadler said he will support a resolution to terminate the President's emergency declaration, should he issue one. 

 More recently, CNN grudgingly agrees that, perhaps as many as 10,000 are heading for America. But, they point out that these are smaller groups, not one big caravan.

Oh, well. That's OK, then.
