Match Preview: Peachtree City-Tri-Cities Renew Their Rivalry
After a very strong 2-1-2, Peachtree City MOBA stumbled on their own feet in Statesboro on Wednesday when they fell to their in-state rivals South Georgia Tormenta FC 2-0 in the final regular season installment of the Georgia Clásico before Tormenta enter the professional ranks. While the season is far from over, that loss really hurt MOBA's chances at the division title, given that Tormenta are unbeaten thus far. That does not mean the playoffs are out of the picture, however, as there is still a lot to fight for, but Peachtree City need to bounce back immediately.
Now sitting at 2-2-2, MOBA are fifth in the division, only one point back of third-place SC United, but eight points back of Tormenta in second. The season is not over, and if MOBA can get back on a hot streak, they could be battling for a playoff spot come July. In order to do that, they need to take advantage of what they have in front of them: three straight matches against the bottom two teams in the division. MOBA face sixth-place Tri-Cities on Saturday in the final match of their four-match road stretch before coming home to face last-place Memphis City in back-to-back matches. Peachtree City did well taking advantage of this opportunity earlier in the season, as they beat Memphis City twice on the road a couple of weeks ago. If MOBA can get all nine points from the next three matches, they will find themselves with seventeen points on the season on a record of 5-2-2, which should put them in prime position to do battle with high-flying first-place Mississippi Brilla FC on the 23rd. Peachtree City will be without Guyana International Brandon Beresford on Saturday, however, as he picked up two yellow cards on Wednesday, leading to a one-match league suspension. Beresford did not play in either of the Memphis City matches, though, as Peachtree City have a lot of depth in midfield.
The Otters won't be so easy to top, however, as they are coming off a 4-0 win on Tuesday at home against Carolina Dynamo. While any win is a good win, Carolina are last-place in the South Atlantic Division, and the Otters are win-less in Deep South Division play. Tri-Cities could be the perfect team for MOBA to face right now, but they cannot be overlooked. This Peachtree City-Tri-Cities clash has developed into a true rivalry over the last two seasons, as no meeting has been decided by more than one goal. The Otters will be desperate to get some results after a rough start to 2018, and getting a win against MOBA would be huge for them. Whether you are a MOBA fan, an Otters fan, or a neutral, this rivalry will be a fun one to watch.
Keys to Success:
- Tighten the Line: While the defense has been getting better over the last few matches, it will be crucial for the back four to play well if Peachtree City want to get a result in Johnson City. The Otters are a very solid offensive team, and they will be goal-hunting on Saturday. Keep the line strong and defend well, and everything will be a lot easier.
- Don't Be Afraid to Shoot: While the Otters offense has been good, their defense has not. They have conceded fifteen goals on the season, second-most in the division behind Memphis. Attack the back line and attack the goalkeeper, and the goals will come. If nobody is willing to shoot, it will be a very long night.
Kickoff for Peachtree City MOBA vs. Tri-Cities Otters is scheduled for June 16th at 7:00 PM at Kermit-Tipton Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee. There will be a livestream available, and the link can be found on the Otters social media pages.
