Relationship check-in time! Peace and harmony is the Libra way—this balanced sign counts Gandhi, John Lennon, and Alfred Nobel (of the Nobel Peace Prize) among its ranks, after all. So typically, a Libra full moon would be the occasion to celebrate our soft spot for all of humankind, passing out olive branches and extending our goodwill.
Since the Libra full moon is the second full moon to fall within the same month (the first one was on March 1), it’s called a blue moon. This lunation is named the full Sap Moon since it’s around this time of year that the sap from maple trees begins to flow.
It’s unusual to have even ONE blue moon in a calendar year, and in 2018 there are two. This is the second blue moon of 2018 (the first was the January 31 Super Blue Blood Moon), a cosmic phenomenon we haven’t witnessed since 1999. But there’s no particular metaphysical meaning to this. It just happens that two of the longer months in this year’s Gregorian calendar had full moons fall on the 1st and the 31st. (Still, expect to see #bluemoon hashtags aplenty on your feeds!)
Partnership-oriented Libra could give us clearer signs about a certain relationship’s potential. Connections that have been percolating since the Libra new moon last October 19 could hit a defining moment. Some couples or business alliances may decide to make their status official while for others, the question may be: Am I in or am I out?
But enjoying the company of another is only half the equation: How secure and connected do you feel when you’re apart? This year’s full moon will be in a loose cardinal T-square to the Sun and Mercury in me-first Aries and structured Saturn in future-focused Capricorn. We must balance our collaborations and commitments with our personal and professional goals. How does a partnership fit with your own long-term plans? Does it also support your growth as an individual?
The Libra full moon may also encourage us to quit wavering and sign on the dotted line. It could be time to make an important alliance official. Sign a contract, accept an offer or partner up. Just make sure you spell out your roles in crystal-clear terms so everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities.
Star-powered tip: Don’t rush! Communication planet Mercury is retrograde from March 22 to April 15, which could cause us to miss a few important points. Read the fine print. Since Libra is ruled by aesthetic Venus, a change of lifestyle and spending habits might be in order, too.
Here are six tips for finding balance at the full Blue Sap Moon in Libra.

1. Attract your opposite.

How can you make your duos even more dynamic? While common ground is great, Libra loves the principle of “opposites attract.” Branch out and work the buddy system with someone who knows how to pick up where you leave off. Complementary skill sets make for a total dream team, even if the matchup seems odd on paper. In truth, these unlikely pairings can be the greatest win-win combinations. If you’re stuck in a rut, don’t autopilot into dialing a BFF who can commiserate. It would be far more productive to reach out to someone new…someone who has conquered the very dragon you’re trying to slay. Creatives, call upon the gear-heads; engineers, reach out to an artiste.

2. Strike a creative compromise.
What’s the difference between hotheaded screaming and productive conflict resolution? We believe it’s the intention behind your “fight.” If both parties, in their hearts, truly want to reach a win-win solution, then all the fighting words will come out in the wash. But if they’re digging in their heels just to win a power struggle, there will be no peace. As Libra Gandhi said, “Honest disagreement is often a good sign of progress.” (He also warned us that “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”) You can still respect the other person’s right to their principles, even if you disagree with them.

Look into your own life: Where do you have conflict or a disagreement? Can you forge a common agenda? Do a little journaling to see if you can discover what each side wants and even brainstorm a creative solution. You might even “role play” and write out the other side’s argument, just to boost your empathy. If you’re willing and able to hash out a creative compromise, use the two weeks following the full moon to get everything onto the negotiating table. Remember: Things don’t have to be split 50/50 in order to feel fair, and trying to force that might be part of the breakdown. Could you divide up responsibilities to play to each person’s strengths?
3. Strive for inner balance across all areas of your life.
As above, so below; as within, so without. At the Libra full moon, check your habits, your home, your diet. Where has balance gone awry? Ask if your once-peaceful sanctuary turned into a noisy hub, perhaps filled with children’s toys or unruly clutter. Strike a compromise: Maybe you can’t feng shui the whole place or relegate the kids to one room. But you CAN carve out a little sanctuary for yourself, order a few TV-free hours, and go to town cleaning up one particularly egregious zone.

Consider your diet and be honest about whether you’ve been going too heavy on the stimulants like caffeine or burning it up with spicy foods. Learn about the pH scale of acid versus alkaline foods, and try to add a few more alkalizing options.
Then, move on to the office. Many of us function on stress and adrenaline at our jobs. Where can you be more awake, conscious, and calm around your finances and work? Libra also rules the lower back, so if you need more spinal support (and many of us do), look into standing desk options.
4. Feed your emotional bank account.
Relationship harmony is a major focus of this Libra full moon. Feeding the “emotional bank account,” as The 7 Habits of Effective People author Stephen Covey calls it, doesn’t require a huge deposit. This week, acknowledging and appreciating the little things that people do can be the glue that seals your bonds. Here are a few magic phrases to try:

“I love the way you X (insert action or trait).”
“I really appreciate the way you X.”
“Thank you for doing X.”
It’s so easy to overlook the wonderful gifts people bring us on a daily basis, but being taken for granted can be a huge buzzkill to romance and friendship. Get the lovefest going by showering people with compliments this week. Do you need to be acknowledged too? There’s nothing wrong with asking for it, but be a giver first.
5. Join a “Justice League.”
The scales of justice are the Libra motif, and this full moon shines a bright beam on bias, discrimination, or anything that’s just plain unfair. Speak out and contribute to a social cause. Is someone being bullied in your neighborhood, school, or within your family? Would you like to see your office culture be more inclusive? Are animals being mistreated in your area? Channel the Libra energy of the “peaceful warrior” and do something to help right the wrong.

6. Show your softer side.
Sometimes, all our grandstanding and well-crafted arguments mask very simple emotions: hurt, fear, shame, guilt. Rather than saying “You hurt my feelings” or “I’m sad that we broke up,” it seems easier to stage a tabloid-worthy war, attacking the other person below the belt so they feel the same searing pain we’re too proud to admit that we feel. Recommended viewing, even if you’ve seen it before, is Brené Brown’s TED talk on The Power of Vulnerability.

To bring it all back to the Libra themes of love, togetherness, and connection, we’ll end with a quote from Brené Brown herself: “Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
