Sheriff Tackitt from Wilson County, told reporters Monday morning that 23-people were found dead inside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland, 2-died outside. He went on to say that almost everyone in the church suffered some type of injury.
Among the injured and killed were 12-14 children and 8-members of the same family. The shooter, Devin Kelley, was shot and injured by an armed citizen - he then shot and killed himself.
The church pastor was out-of-town in Oklahoma. The visiting pastor is listed among the dead, as was the regular pastor’s own daughter. According to reporters on the scene, Kelley’s estranged wife and in-laws attended this church from time to time.
Kelley was court-martialed and served time in jail before being dishonorably discharged from the Air Force, for beating his wife and young child.
