The trooper, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was involved in a traffic stop on Interstate 35 in Temple, Texas when a passing vehicle hit him. He was transported to Baylor Scott And White Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A total of three vehicles were then involved in a traffic collision on I-35 southbound not far from the Temple DPS office. After being struck, the trooper’s vehicle caught fire. At least one other person, besides the trooper, was taken to the hospital. The name and condition of that person has not been released.
