Dabrett Montreal Black Was Under Indictment After Police Chase In Smith County

Dabrett Montreal Black, 32, of Lindale, was indicted by a Smith County Grand Jury in late October 2017 on two felony charges stemming from a chase involving Smith County deputies in July, officials announced.

He faces a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest, a third-degree felony.

Black allegedly crashed into a deputy’s car on the shoulder of Anne Campbell Road (CR 492, south of Interstate 20 near Tyler Pipe) on July 2 when he was being chased by Smith County deputies. Black had been stopped by a deputy for speeding and having defective equipment on his car on Lavender Road.
